Conny Ochs live - St.Bavokerk
In an attempt to create a multidisciplinary experience of art, immersion, and transcendence, the German singer, songwriter, and poet Conny Ochs will join the exhibition “Inspiring Encounters” by Matthijs Wils presented at the St. Bavo Kerk.
The installation consisting of 18 sculpted structures made of raw wool, willow branches, and ceramics is set to create a tactile experience in interaction with the aura presented by a church building with its centuries-old traditions. But it doesn't end here. When we talk about senses and immersion, sound becomes an integral part as well as narratives. Together they create an engagement with the terrifying, the miraculous, and the mysterious of our existence. Consider yourself invited for a conversation with yourself and each other.
In a partially improvised and alternating interaction between music and storytelling, Conny Ochs will present a special performance amplifying and reflecting the power of vulnerability and wonder, which speak from the combination of the installations and the sounds, as we look for deeper connection. Attendees will be granted to engage in a unique atmosphere dissolving the boundaries between music, tactile experiences, and the powers of spoken words. Conny Ochs will be singing songs and reading from his book of poems “Wahn & Sinn”. The performances furthermore will touch narratives behind songs and deep interaction with listeners and visitors to dissolve the standard audience-artist dichotomy for a much more bi-directional and immersive engagement with each other. Inspirations drawn from the exhibition itself will be interwoven into the musical performance as well.
Conny is living in Germany and Italy and has been touring the world for nearly 20 years as a solo artist and in bands as well as a collaborative partner with underground Doom legend Scott “Wino” Weinrich (Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan) with whom he released two albums as duo Wino & Conny Ochs. He has played renowned festivals such as Roadburn, Desertfest, and South Of Mainstream. He also works as a fine artist and graphic designer and is part of the RE:CODE RE:CORD exhibition premiering at onthe Haarlem Vinyl Festival. In 2023 he published his first book of poems.

Conny's songs are trying to focus on the interplay between storytelling and visions - this he carves into the rough edges of songs that come out so natural, so organic, and sonically sparkling. In een poging om een multidisciplinaire ervaring van kunst, onderdompeling en transcendentie te creëren, zal de Duitse zanger, songwriter en dichter Conny Ochs deelnemen aan de tentoonstelling “Inspiring Encounters” van Matthijs Wils, gepresenteerd in de St. Bavo Kerk.
De installatie, bestaande uit 18 gebeeldhouwde structuren gemaakt van ruwe wol, wilgentakken en keramiek, is bedoeld om een tactiele ervaring te creëren in interactie met de aura van een kerkgebouw met zijn eeuwenoude tradities. Maar het houdt hier niet op. Als we het hebben over zintuigen en onderdompeling, wordt geluid ook een integraal onderdeel, evenals verhalen. Samen creëren ze een engagement met het angstaanjagende, het wonderbaarlijke en het mysterieuze van ons bestaan. Beschouw jezelf uitgenodigd voor een gesprek met jezelf en met elkaar. In een gedeeltelijk geïmproviseerde en afwisselende interactie tussen muziek en verhalen vertellen, zal Conny Ochs een speciale performance geven die de kracht van kwetsbaarheid en verwondering versterkt en weerspiegelt, die spreken vanuit de combinatie van de installaties en de geluiden, terwijl we op zoek gaan naar diepere verbinding. Bezoekers zullen worden uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan een unieke sfeer waarin de grenzen tussen muziek, tactiele ervaringen en de kracht van gesproken woorden worden opgelost. Conny Ochs zal liedjes zingen en voorlezen uit zijn dichtbundel “Wahn & Sinn”. De optredens zullen ook verhalen achter de liedjes belichten en diepgaande interactie met luisteraars en bezoekers aanmoedigen, waarbij de standaard dichotomie tussen publiek en artiest wordt opgeheven voor een meer tweerichtingsverkeer en meeslepende interactie. Inspiraties uit de tentoonstelling zelf zullen ook verweven worden in het muzikale optreden.

Hij heeft opgetreden op gerenommeerde festivals zoals Roadburn, Desertfest en South Of Mainstream. Daarnaast werkt hij als beeldend kunstenaar en grafisch ontwerper en is hij onderdeel van de RE:CODE RE:CORD tentoonstelling, die in première gaat op het Haarlem Vinyl Festival. In 2023 publiceerde hij zijn eerste dichtbundel.
Conny Ochs nadert de meest oorspronkelijke creatie van muziek - met een zuivere toewijding aan zijn eigen emotionaliteit. Wat in zijn muziek, toon en teksten wordt gekanaliseerd, is niets anders dan de waarheid. Conny's liedjes proberen zich te richten op de wisselwerking tussen verhalen vertellen en visies - dit snijdt hij in de ruwe randen van liedjes die zo natuurlijk, zo organisch en sonisch sprankelend naar buiten komen.
