On Saturday, September 28th, Cristel Ball will once again curate an evening filled with surprising acts, with Don Melody Club about to bring some afternoon vibes to the PHIL.
Originally started as a solo home-recording project by Donald Madjid, Don Melody Club has grown into an impressive five-piece live band. Their musical journey began with the debut album 'Pure Donzin', which was released on the renowned Swiss label Bongo Joe in 2021. With this, Don gained a niche fanbase, and the album has since been hailed as a cult classic.
In April 2022, Don entered Jan Schenk's studio in Amsterdam with the full live band to record new material. This adventurous sound, featuring new influences from the 80s like Talking Heads, Doe Maar, and clearly audible dub effects, shows that Don Melody Club enjoys keeping the band's style broad and freely experimental. Despite exploring and expanding their sound, the vocals and Don's distinctive voice always serve as a consistent thread throughout the music.

Cristel is known for her eclectic vinyl sets and deep understanding of different genres and eras, mixing punk with hip-hop and wave without blinking. She also has a great ear for surprising bands and new music. Expect vinyl culture with a twist and a place to discover fresh talent from the Haarlem area and beyond. Last year, we hosted this freely accessible evening in the Jopenkerk, and this year, with the help of our friends at Jopen, we decided to go a little bigger by taking over the PHIL foyer. From Saturday afternoon till midnight, we will top off a day filled with a fantastic program at our central festival location.

Hun muzikale reis begon met het debuutalbum ''Pure Donzin'' dat uitkwam op het gerenommeerde Zwitserse label Bongo Joe in 2021. Hiermee verwierf Don een niche fanbase en is het album inmiddels gedoopt tot een cult-klassieker.
In april 2022 dook Don met de volledige liveformatie de Jan Schenk studio te Amsterdam in om nieuw werk op te nemen. Dit avontuurlijke geluid, met nieuwe invloeden uit de jaren 80 als Talking Heads, Doe Maar en duidelijk hoorbare dub-effecten laat merken dat Don Melody Club graag het spectrum en de stijl van de band breed en vrij experimenteel houdt. Ondanks het verkennen en uitbreiden van de sound blijven de vocals en Don's kenmerkende stemgeluid altijd als een rode draad door de muziek klinken.
