Drop me off in Haarlem

De Pletterij presents an LP featuring recordings from the six concerts of the 'Drop Me Off in Haarlem' series that took place this year. The LP was mixed by Stefan Schmidt (Zuco 103) and pressed at Record Industries. To mark this release, a performance will take place featuring (Haarlem) jazz musicians Paul Berner on double bass, Teunis Loot on drums, Tim Langendijk on guitar, and Stefan Schmidt on piano.

Surprisingly, a large number of top jazz musicians live in Haarlem. This inspired bassist Paul Berner and Pletterij director and programmer Arno Duivestein to invite them for a chat and a drink in early December 2023. During this meeting, they decided to start a series of monthly concerts in 2024, featuring performances by the group or projects from the members of this 'pool'. Additionally, a session was organized on the second Monday of each month, where these musicians were brought together in new combinations. Drummer Martin van Duynhoven came up with the title 'Drop Me Off In Haarlem' for this initiative, named after Duke Ellington's song 'Drop Me Off In Harlem'. The series was a great success with both musicians and audiences from the start: the concerts and sessions were all well attended or sold out!

This album, released on vinyl during the second Haarlem Vinyl Festival, features one track from each of the six concerts that took place during the first season of Drop Me Off In Haarlem. It represents the richness and diversity of the music created by Haarlem jazz musicians!

Ter gelegenheid van deze presentatie vindt een optreden plaats van de (Haarlemse) jazzmusici Paul Berner- contrabas, Teunis Loot- drums, Tim Langendijk- gitaar en Stefan Schmidt- piano.

In Haarlem wonen verrassend veel topjazzmuzikanten. Dit inspireerde bassist Paul Berner en Pletterij-directeur en programmeur Arno Duivestein om hen begin december 2023 uit te nodigen voor een praatje en een drankje.
