Geertruida presents: Those Foreign Kids + badtime

A fantastic double bill, presented by Haarlem's own label Geertruida. On Friday, September 27, the lineup features not only the noise-rock duo Those Foreign Kids but also the visual art collaboration badtime.

THOSE FOREIGN KIDS
Those Foreign Kids return from hibernation brandishing their 3rd album, 'Wrestlemania', between their teeth and with 2 (TWO) record labels following their trail: Vibe/Anti-Vibe and Geertruida.
Whilst the noise-rock duo start their album woozy and out-for-the-count, they soon steady themselves and deliver a solid stream of high energy garage rock which harnesses the heavily-effected guitar riffs of Marijn Westerlaken, the blistering drums of Teun Heijmans and their shared falsetto vocals. Whilst Those Foreign Kids' previous albums sounded something like a punk rock band soundtracking a slow-mo video of the world imploding, this one sounds more like a straight-up fucking party.

Recorded with Casper van der Lans at Erik's House, Amsterdam and mastered by the Australian punk rock luminary Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control). 'Wrestlemania' is an undeniably entertaining bout which slams choruses through weak office furniture and announces a few shock celebrity guests (The Spice Girls, Gandhi) whilst throwing devil horns to the audience.

badtime
badtime (The Hague, NL) was born in 2020 as a visual art collaboration between Kevin Schuit and Ioana Ciora. It quickly grew into a multi-disciplinary universe of its own. What can be seen as the soundtrack to their drawings is sinister and gloomy yet energetic and dancy, incorporating electronic drum beats, pulsating bass lines, hypnotic synths and driving punk guitars. 

Geertruida
Geertruida is a century old house in Haarlem, The Netherlands. It functions as their home, their studio, their office. It's a record label, it's a record shop, it's a guitar shop, it's a place for musicians to sleep, hang, party and/or play a show. They try to provide and arrange everything from an artist perspective, always putting the music first. The records they release are most of all the ones that they think deserve to be out there, the ones they would want to have in their own record collections.

THOSE FOREIGN KIDS

Those Foreign Kids zijn terug uit hun winterslaap en brengen hun derde album, 'Wrestlemania', met zich mee, gevolgd door twee platenlabels: Vibe/Anti-Vibe en Geertruida.
Terwijl het noise-rock duo hun album begint in een wazige en versufte staat, herstellen ze zich al snel en leveren een constante stroom van high-energy garage rock, waarin de zwaar bewerkte gitaarriffs van Marijn Westerlaken, de zinderende drums van Teun Heijmans en hun gedeelde falsetto zang samenkomen. Terwijl de vorige albums van Those Foreign Kids klonken als een punkrockband die de soundtrack verzorgt voor een slow-mo video van de wereld die implodeert, klinkt dit album meer als een regelrechte knalfeest.

Opgenomen met Casper van der Lans in Erik's House, Amsterdam, en gemasterd door de Australische punkrock legende Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control), is 'Wrestlemania' een onmiskenbaar vermakelijke strijd die refreinen door zwak kantoormeubilair ramt en een paar schokkende beroemdheden (The Spice Girls, Gandhi) aankondigt terwijl ze duivelshoorntjes naar het publiek gooien.
Na optredens als voorprogramma van Preoccupations, A Place to Bury Strangers, No Age en Gilla Band, en het spelen op festivals zoals Le Guess Who, Grasnapolsky en Incubate, nemen Those Foreign Kids hun live show mee op tournee door Europa en het VK vanaf mei 2023.

badtime
badtime (Den Haag, NL) werd geboren in 2020 als een visuele kunstsamenwerking tussen Kevin Schuit en Ioana Ciora. Het groeide al snel uit tot een multidisciplinair universum op zich. Wat gezien kan worden als de soundtrack bij hun tekeningen is sinister en somber, maar tegelijkertijd energiek en dansbaar, met elektronische drumbeats, pulserende baslijnen, hypnotiserende synths en krachtige punkgitaren.

Geertruida
Geertruida is een honderd jaar oud huis in Haarlem, Nederland. Het fungeert als hun thuis, hun studio, hun kantoor. Het is een platenlabel, een platenwinkel, een gitaarwinkel, en een plek voor muzikanten om te slapen, rond te hangen, te feesten en/of op te treden.

Ze proberen alles te bieden en te regelen vanuit het perspectief van de artiest, waarbij de muziek altijd op de eerste plaats komt. De platen die ze uitbrengen, zijn vooral die waarvan zij vinden dat ze naar buiten moeten, de platen die ze zelf in hun eigen platenverzameling zouden willen hebben.
