On Saturday, September 28th, Cristel Ball will once again curate an evening filled with surprising acts. First up is this year's (J)open Stage talent HUNK.
In the spirit of bold acts like Gwen Stefani, Girl in Red and Wolf Alice. Joan de Bruyn Kops fronts diet grunge-pop band HUNK — escaping the perfectionistic demands of her brain. With a total absence of pretense, HUNK tackles skin-deep agony, blending '90s grunge with infectious synth-pop. Proving that getting frustrated can be a blast, if you play your cards right...
After making their radio debut with “Blushing Over Nothing” at KINK FM and opening the MainStage of bevrijdingspop Haarlem on may 5th, the band will be touring as NMTH-talent during Popronde this fall, and release their second single “Paul”. Stay tuned, and get ready to become a cherished friend in the mix :)

Cristel is known for her eclectic vinyl sets and deep understanding of different genres and eras, mixing punk with hip-hop and wave without blinking. She also has a great ear for surprising bands and new music. Expect vinyl culture with a twist and a place to discover fresh talent from the Haarlem area and beyond. Last year, we hosted this freely accessible evening in the Jopenkerk, and this year, with the help of our friends at Jopen, we decided to go a little bigger by taking over the PHIL foyer. From Saturday afternoon till midnight, we will top off a day filled with a fantastic program at our central festival location.

Gedreven door de vurige geest van acts zoals Gwen Stefani, Girl in Red en Wolf Alice, staat Joan de Bruyn Kops aan het hoofd van de diet grunge-popband HUNK. Hierbij ontsnapt ze aan de verstikkende eisen van haar eigen gedachten.
Zonder enige vorm van schijn confronteert HUNK de oppervlakkige frustraties van het leven, door '90s grunge te vermengen met aanstekelijke synth-pop. Hiermee tonen ze aan dat gefrustreerd raken best fijn kan zijn... Als je het goed doet.
Na hun radiodebuut met “Blushing Over Nothing” bij KINK FM en het openen van het hoofdpodium van Bevrijdingspop Haarlem op 5 mei, tourt de band deze herfst mee als NMTH-talent tijdens Popronde 2024 en release ze gelijktijdig hun tweede single “Paul”
