The Sunday Book Club features the authors of the very best books about music and/or musicians talking about both their most recent work and the most surprising facts they discovered while researching. The inaugural session features music industry expert Eamonn Forde discussing 1999: The Year the Music Industry Lost Control, which looks at the perfect storm of circumstances that beset music industry executives in the lead-up to the millennium, the hubris, cynicism, and arrogance that ensured their days were numbered, and how the industry started to recover and become what it is today. Forde will also be talking about his favourite books on music by other authors, and offering eye-popping anecdotes about the execs whose behaviour made most rock stars seem reasonable and well behaved.
Eamonn Forde is an award-winning freelance music business and technology journalist who has written about all areas of the music industry since 2001. He is a regular contributor to Music Ally, Music Business Worldwide, The Guardian, IQ, The Quietus and more. His books include The Final Days of EMI: Selling The Pig (2019) and Leaving The Building: The Lucrative Afterlife Of Music Estates (2021). His latest book, 1999: The Year The Record Industry Lost Control, was published on 7 March 2024.
